I cofounded the record label Guana Records in 1998, and have been the director of Corporación Sonidos de la Tierra since 2007.

I have been making music since 1979.
I have been fortunate to learn from renowned teachers such as Blas Emilio Atehortúa, Andrés Posada, and Álvaro Rojas (Colombia), Alfredo del Mónaco, Juan Carlos Núñez (Venezuela), and Carlos Fariñas (Cuba).
I am a composer, arranger, performer, and researcher.
I have also served as Education Coordinator for the Red de Escuelas de Música de Medellín (2017-2019), Curriculum Director for the Red de Músicas Populares Medellín Vive la Música (2014-2015).
From 2013-2016 I served as General Director of the Interdisciplinary Creative Labs of Barú Island, Barrancabermeja and Salgar, a collaboration between Fonade-Mincultura and Corporación Sonidos de la Tierra.
My catalog as a composer includes large-scale symphonic works such as:
“Ramón El Camaleón” (2004), winner of the XIII National Grant awarded by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, and selected to be performed by the National Symphony of Colombia for the inauguration ceremony of the 2017 Año Colombia-Francia Festival. This piece has been performed in Spain (JOGV), Italy, and Germany (Young Euro Classic 2011).
“Jaira Cari” (1997), was commissioned by the Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea de Camagüey (Cuba).
“Salabambasú” (1993), was the winner of the Francisco de Paula Santander Grant awarded by Colcultura-Icetex-Colombia.
“Two Symphonic Movements” (1991), was published by the Colombian Ministry of Culture and the National Symphony of Colombia, Almaguer (1991), for two violins and orchestra, was published and performed by the Orquesta Filarmónica Joven de Colombia in 2011.
My chamber music works include Ekos:
- Ekos: The Cosmos in Two Cultures, written to celebrate 110 years of relations between Japan and Colombia (2018) and winner of the “Beca Nacional Itinerancias por Colombia” awarded by the Colombian Ministry of Culture (2011) and the Ministry of External Relations (2012). This work has been also presented at the Berlin FashionWeek 2012 and the Festival of Two Worlds (Italy) in 2012.
- “Bulla Endiablada”, for Prehispanic Instruments of the Tayrona and Zenu Cultures in the 9th-14th Centuries (2009-2010), was published by the Universidad de Antioquia-Mincultura (2014).
- “Remedios la Bella” (1992 – 1993) received an honorary mention in Colcultura’s National Music Prize in the category of chamber music composition (1993).
- “Suite Los Nacimientos” (1988 – 1990), was selected to be performed at the VI Caracas Latinamerican Music Festival in Venezuela (1992).
- “Suite Colombiana” (1987) for solo piano, among others.
